This mentorship programme focuses on bringing in students from disadvantaged backgrounds to experience a workday at Ignition, where they get to be part of our bigger picture and experience the impact we’re creating in the digital economy. The day was a great success, filled with energy and enthusiasm. The day buzzed with activities as students learned from various departments, enjoying personalised guidance from our mentors. Each student brought a unique spark of curiosity and ambition, making the experience as
exciting for the mentors as it was for the mentees.
Here’s what some of our mentors had to say about the experience:
Makhosi Radebe, Business Development Specialist: “It was delightful to spend time with the highly ambitious future engineer, Nombulelo Shabalala. She showed a keen interest in my daily activities, asking more questions about the technical aspects of my core responsibilities than I had expected. Additionally, I enjoyed interacting with the other mentees in the programme, all of whom were full of energy and eager to learn.”
Reshmi Dhanee, Group Recruitment Consultant: “It was an absolute pleasure spending time with Fernando and the other talented students from LIV Village. It was an experience of mutual learning and we were left inspired by the opportunity to mentor these young minds who exhibit great potential for success.”
Shannon Dickens, Product Owner: “It was truly a privilege to share my expertise with Sanele. He was so eager to learn and grow in the field. Sanele’s enthusiasm and curiosity will take him far in his career.”
Caleb Charles, Group Head of Environments: “I had the pleasure of mentoring Sithembile Sithole. She quickly engaged with our team, learning about our operations during a detailed office tour. She was also fascinated by the Environments team’s daily flow of emails and meetings. Sithembile is a student committed to her choir and basketball, and in future hopes to impact South Africa’s economy positively. Our day ended with a friendly lunch among the mentees, leaving Sithembile inspired and always welcome to return.”
The LIV students learnt so much through this exposure to the working world, and we look forward to seeing them one day as professionals, hopefully working at Ignition Group.
