What is Paint the Town Green, and why is it such a big deal?

At Ignition, we believe that work should be balanced with fun – and our Paint the Town Green event is the perfect example of that philosophy.

It’s not often that breaking plates and shouting ‘Opa!’ is part of a work function, but at Ignition we tend to do things a bit differently. This was the scene at a recent Paint the Town Green event, where the Greek theme gave an indication that we were taking ‘fun’ to be most important part of ‘function’.

At Ignition, we may work hard but that doesn’t mean we don’t know how to have a good time. We also love celebrating everyone’s successes and recognising when someone is shooting their lights out in their career.

So twice a year we hold Paint the Town Green, a glamourous, fun night when everything to do with work is put aside and the focus is placed firmly on our invited guests.

Paint the Town Green isn’t just a dinner or a party – it’s a celebration of excellence where top-performing Ignitioners are acknowledged for their achievements and what they bring to Ignition. It’s also an opportunity to build our Ignition community – for people across the business to socialise and really get to know the person beyond their work role. It’s a time where future leaders rub shoulders with leaders within the business, helping them to prepare for future opportunities.

Every Senior Manager is invited, and they’re also encouraged to bring one non-Senior Manager as a guest. These guests can be from their team or from any other department or company in the Group, who they think is making a difference and deserves to be recognised and celebrated.

These invitations aren’t given out lightly. Senior Managers take this opportunity to recognise those who stand out for their hard work, dedication, and the impact they’ve made on the business. Here’s what a few of them had to say about their guests and why they were chosen:

  • Juanita, you have been a pillar of strength during a very stressful year, and your leadership has been invaluable to the team.” – Angeline Bennett about Juanita Maharaj.
  • You make everything turn to gold! You are an amazing leader, team member and colleague. It’s been an honour watching you grow. Thank you for everything you do — you are so appreciated!” – Robyn Talbot about Nicole Tribelhorn.
  • Your positive and professional attitude shines through, and you consistently give your best. As a dedicated Scrum Master, you deserve recognition for always going above and beyond for your teams.” Bhavna Namlal about Thembelihle Chamane.

Ignition may have grown exponentially over the past 20 years, but one thing that hasn’t changed is our commitment to putting our people first and rewarding their success, and never will. Occasions like Paint the Town Geen and our regular awards events not only celebrate our successes but also motivate us to continually strive for excellence in everything we do.
