We’re passionate about making a meaningful impact in the communities we serve and so is The Learn Project, a non-profit organisation dedicated to increasing literacy and reading skills in the youth. As part of this partnership, we embarked on a joint initiative to install a fully equipped library and book corners at Sogidi Primary School. This project aims to provide the learners with access to a diverse range of books and resources that will inspire learning and ignite their minds.
On the day of the launch, we had a joyous celebration as we gathered with our Ignitioners, learners, educators and community members to officially unveil the new library and book corners.
Five book corners were installed in the Foundation Phase classrooms, each with 60 books for a total of 300 age-appropriate books. The library was totally overhauled and now has a collection of 1423 books, including fiction, non-fiction, early readers, display books, dictionaries and reference materials for teachers, greatly improved the learning resources available at Sogidi Primary School. There are also various educational games, puzzles and literacy resources to encourage learning and exploration beyond the classroom.
To make the project truly sustainable and maximise the impact on the school, 12 library monitors and 10 teachers were given training, as was a dedicated librarian.
When the library was officially opened, the learners were so eager to explore the shelves, ready to dive into a world of knowledge and discovery.
We are incredibly proud of our partnership with The Learn Project and the impact it has on the communities involved – it is a fitting reflection on our shared commitment to empowering lives through education.
