Whether it’s one person racing against their best time in the Comrades or a team working together to come out on top in a cricket league, we love it when our Ignitioners get involved in sport. In fact, we love it so much that we’ve got a whole initiative designed to back them and make sure they get to compete.
Ignition’s Ignite Sports Benefit has been developed to help Ignitioners afford to participate in the sport they love. If they want to enter a formal sporting event, like The Comrades Marathon, Iron Man, The Two Oceans Marathon, Dusi Canoe Marathon or Midmar Mile, we’re only too happy to cover their registration fees as well as travel or equipment costs, up to a limit of course. Since we’re based in KZN, there’s always at least one Ignitioner (well done Christian Kibambe, Keshav Singh and Nikola Ramsden for your 2024 run!) taking on the challenge of the iconic Comrades, and we not only sponsor them but also get out on the road to support them.
Another aspect of the Sports Benefit is supporting fund-raising efforts. For example, Nikola Ramsden recently participated in a charity swim and Ignition matched the amount that she was able to raise. Well done, Nikola.
And if a group of Ignitioners are part of a team in an official league, like soccer, netball or action cricket, we’ll back them too. The Ignition Super Kings are a team of keen Ignitioners that we are supporting in the local indoor cricket league – and they’re doing phenomenally well! Super Kings captain, Adheesh Ragunanan said, “We started the team around July 2018. We didn’t play during COVID, but since then we’ve participated in every season to date. It all started during a conversation at Skyfall about sport, and a bunch of guys were keen to start playing action cricket. We quickly got the ball rolling and put a team together. It was pitched to the business, and they agreed to sponsor the team’s season fees.”
We’ve got great talent in our ranks, as you’d expect of a business of this size, so we’ve also made a decision to support those athletes who represent our country or their province. We do this both financially and with extra leave, so they don’t have to choose between competing or spending time with their families.
After all, we’re all Team Ignition, and their success is our success.
