Mandela Day is a time for reflection and giving back where you can and at Ignition Group, we are committed to making a positive difference in our community. This year, Ignitioners came together to participate in two initiatives that embody the spirit of Madiba’s legacy – refurbishing classrooms at LIV Village and covering books to donate to the Windy Heights Primary School library.

Refurbishing classrooms at LIV Village

A group of enthusiastic Ignitioners travelled to LIV Village, an organisation that provides a safe and nurturing environment for vulnerable children. The classrooms at LIV Village needed some TLC, with peeling paint and worn-down facilities.

Our team rolled up their sleeves and got to work, spending the day painting the outside of classrooms and basically glowing up the learning spaces. It was incredible to see the transformation unfold as the areas were brought back to life with vibrant colours and a renewed sense of energy. The staff and children at LIV Village were overjoyed by the changes, expressing their heartfelt gratitude for the time and effort we had invested. Seeing the smiles on their faces made all the hard work worth it.

Covering books for Windy Heights Primary School

Ignitioners focused on covering books that will be donated to the Windy Heights Primary School library. This is part of our ongoing collaboration with The Learn Project, a non-profit organisation dedicated to improving access to education. We invited all Ignitioners to participate in this book covering drive, providing the necessary materials and asking everyone to come with clean hands to ensure the books are presented in the best possible way. The response was overwhelming, with the Canteen filled with boxes of books waiting to be covered. This initiative is particularly meaningful, as it will ensure that the learners at Windy Heights Primary School have access to a wide range of reading materials to foster their love for learning. uConnect joined in to further encourage those who chose to donate to The Learn Project, by giving them back 100% of their donation in uConnect airtime.

These two Mandela Day initiatives were a true testament to the power of collaboration. By coming together as a team, we were able to make a tangible difference in the lives of the children in our community.

A heartfelt thank you to all the Ignitioners who donated their time, energy, and resources to these projects.
